Vehicle Diagnostics Centre
Jackson and Phillips have been at the forefront of vehicle diagnostics since the introduction of electronic ignition and fuel injection in the early 90’s.
We have built a wealth of experience and are constantly investing in training and equipment to be able to diagnose faults on even the newest petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles.
So if you have noticed a fault or have a warning light on your dashboard we can get to the bottom of the problem.
Latest Technology
Our workshops are fitted with the very latest technology to ensure that we can offer a professional service to our entire customer base. Whether you have an electrical or mechanical fault, our team has decades of experience and will able to identify the issue for you.
How Our Vehicle Diagnostics Works
Our highly advanced vehicle diagnostics equipment works by connecting to your car or van's ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU is a unit that uses sensors to identify and warn of issues your car may have, as they happen. Issues the ECU identifies vary from vehicle to vehicle and can range from:
Once identified, the ECU generates an error code, which most cars display via a dashboard warning light. Whilst this technology is a vital addition to your vehicle, the code generated by the ECU, only identifies that something is wrong, whereas our diagnostics equipment gives our trained technicians a much clearer idea of the core issue.
Why do you need a vehicle diagnostic check?
There are three main reasons why you may require a vehicle diagnostic check (also called an engine diagnostic check). These include:
-
To diagnose an issue
Often, our cars, vans or other types of vehicles, act in ways we don’t recognise. This might be a strange noise, a loss of power, an increase in exhaust fumes, braking issues etc. Sometimes these issues are easily and quickly diagnosed by a trained mechanic. Other times however, more investigatory work is required to get to the bottom of the problem.
By using the latest diagnostics equipment, such as the diagnostic equipment we use at Jackson & Phillips, our fully trained diagnostic experts can scan your car's engine, locate the issue, find out which components are involved, and gauge the severity of the problem, before carrying out any physical car maintenance.
-
As a preventative measure
Another great reason to use our highly advanced vehicle diagnostic equipment is as a way to prevent issues from occurring or causing far bigger (and more expensive) issues in the future.
As a preventative measure, we’d recommend an annual vehicle diagnostic check, either as a standalone service, or as part of your annual service, to help improve your car's performance, and potentially save you a lot of money.
-
To check a used car
Getting a physical engine, or mechanical check on a used car can be an expensive and long process. With a modern car diagnostic check however, we’re able to run a thorough check, without taking too much time. We look at things such as:
Present or impending issues
Previous notifications from the manufacturer
Historic data about the performance of the car, and if previous issues have been resolved
Our vehicle diagnostic equipment
At Jackson & Phillips, our state-of-the-art diagnostics equipment can diagnose all types of issues, whether electrical or mechanical, across all makes and models of cars and vans, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric.
Diagnostic checks will usually take no longer than one hour, and can also include adjusting or resetting things such as headlamp settings, dashboard lights, electronic handbrakes etc., as well as checking the ECU for manufacturers' notifications.
